Fish on Fridays is the work of textile artist Gabe Thirlwall (that’s me!).
I seek to stem the tide of mass produced plastic crap found in big box stores by creating one of a kind pieces. Using the innocuous medium of toys, I challenge people to think the worls we live in. All my creations are handmade in a safe and happy environment (sweatshop free!) and many are made from recycled materials. Originally from Toronto, my family and I relocated to Ottawa where it is very clean.
The first Fish on Fridays project ever was a Jesus comic.

Did you know?
Your support of local artisans (like Fish on Fridays) is a political act? It may not be intentional but by purchasing handmade creations in your neighbourhood, you are taking a stand. You are saying NO to the culture of uniformity, big box stores, mass production and exploited labour, YES to creativity, beauty and dignity in our work! So thanks for your support.

P.S. Was the Jesus alphabet poster one of your creations? I’ve seen them a few places in the four years I’ve been around the community, but Zacchaeus House doesn’t actually have one. Do you still have any available, if that was one of your projects? Thanks Gabe. Amy.
Yes, I did do the ABCs of Jesus poster. If you are looking for a copy, SCM Canada is still selling them. I have a link to them under “politics”.
